Sarah Brummett (she/her) is the Director of the Executive Committee (EXCOM) of the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention. In this role, she works with the Action Alliance leadership team to provide oversight and support to the EXCOM, the Action Alliance task forces and advisory groups, and identifies key opportunities to advance elements of the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention.

Before joining EDC, Brummett served as the Director for the Colorado Office of Suicide Prevention, the legislatively identified coordinating body for suicide prevention, intervention supports, and postvention efforts. She provided leadership and oversight in setting statewide priorities and worked in collaboration with state agencies and community organizations to develop and implement effective strategies for a comprehensive and coordinated public health approach to suicide, including developing adequate community infrastructure, supporting collaborative lethal means safety initiatives, implementation of the Zero Suicide framework within health systems, follow up after emergency department discharge, prioritization of upstream prevention efforts focused on connectedness and economic stability, elevation of lived/living experience, focused strategies for disparately impacted communities, responsive and actionable data, as well as general suicide prevention education and awareness activities. Previously, Brummett oversaw the Colorado Suicide Prevention Commission, which is modeled on the public-private partnership structure of the Action Alliance. She brings experience in leading and growing innovative suicide prevention initiatives, engaging non-traditional partners, strengthening community and state suicide prevention, and improving equity and inclusion in suicide prevention.

Brummett is a lifelong learner with an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Puget Sound, a master’s degree in forensic psychology from the University of Denver Graduate School of Professional Psychology, and a juris doctorate from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. Prior to joining the field of suicide prevention, she practiced family and appellate law in Colorado for several years.
