Measuring progress toward the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention requires shared metrics, strong data systems, and a commitment to learning and transparency.
The Progress, Accountability, and Data Advisory Group is advancing this work through the development of a comprehensive Evaluation Framework, the launch of a national metrics identification effort, and expanded collaboration with international partners.
Together, these efforts are shaping Hope Counts, a new national data initiative designed to track key indicators of progress on the National Strategy. By providing actionable insights, Hope Counts will help partners understand what’s working, identify gaps, and inform decisions that drive effective suicide prevention strategies.
Additional updates and resources on progress measurement and accountability will be shared as this work continues.
While suicide prevention efforts have grown significantly in the United States over the past decade, the nation lacks a consistent, coordinated way to understand their impact. Without a central system to track how the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention is being implemented, it is difficult to measure real progress in reducing suicide.
Hope Counts responds to this need.
Catalyzed by the Action Alliance, Hope Counts is an initiative to identify and track key indicators of progress in suicide prevention at the national level, bringing together partners across sectors to better understand what’s working, identify gaps, and inform action.
The National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (Action Alliance) is the public-private partnership charged with championing suicide prevention as a national priority. The Action Alliance has the unique ability to engage and unify passionate organizations and leaders in all sectors to collaborate toward a national and comprehensive approach to suicide prevention.
