Our Priorities
The National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (Action Alliance) brings together the best thinking and resources from the public and private sectors to steward and advance the goals and objectives of the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention (National Strategy)—the road map for a comprehensive approach to preventing suicide.
In its role as steward for the National Strategy, the Action Alliance is responsible for setting a shared vision and approach for identifying and coordinating opportunities to build, scale, and strengthen the national response to suicide.

Progress and Accountability
Develop and launch a framework for tracking progress on National Strategy and Action Alliance accountability measures.
Progress and Accountability is one of five Strategic Priorities that will direct the Action Alliance’s focus from 2024 to 2027.
With the release of the 2024 National Strategy for Suicide Prevention, the Action Alliance has the opportunity to create a sustained and coordinated national effort to track implementation progress, to identify challenges encountered, and to assess the impact of implementation efforts.
Without a central coordinating presence to both advance and track the implementation of the 2012 National Strategy, tracking progress and impact was limited in the potential for reducing suicide in the United States. Now, a nationally coordinated effort to track implementation and impact of the 2024 National Strategy across public and private sectors will provide accountability, facilitate exploration of areas of potential improvement, and generate the ability to articulate its impact.
Partnership across the public and private sectors is essential to identify and set quantifiable core progress indicators for high-impact areas of the National Strategy. Additionally, collaboration with federal partners will ensure the successes resulting from the first-ever Federal Action Plan are included in progress measures.

Progress and Accountability advances efforts in support of the 2024 National Strategy through the following:
- Strategic Direction 3: Surveillance, Quality Improvement, and Research
- Goal 10: Improve the quality, timeliness, scope, usefulness, and accessibility of data needed for suicide-related surveillance, research, evaluation, and quality improvement.
- Objective 10.5: Evaluate the impact of the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention on core indicators of Strategy progress and the effects on reducing suicidal thoughts, attempts, and deaths.
- Goal 10: Improve the quality, timeliness, scope, usefulness, and accessibility of data needed for suicide-related surveillance, research, evaluation, and quality improvement.
- Strategic Direction 4: Health Equity in Suicide Prevention
- Goal 12: Embed health equity into all comprehensive suicide prevention activities.
