Data Surveillance, Analytics, and Research

Promote improvements in surveillance and research and ensure Action Alliance initiatives are grounded in science.

data

Data Surveillance, Analytics, and Research is one of five Strategic Priorities that will direct the Action Alliance’s focus from 2024 to 2027.

It is only through accessible and actionable data and research can the field have the greatest potential to create change, reduce negative outcomes for communities, and expedite progress.

The Action Alliance will collaborate with partners to improve data quality and representation across groups that have been historically marginalized. Additionally, the Action Alliance will work to update national research priorities around disparities, lethal means safety, and equitable distribution of research and evaluation funding.

Stay tuned for more information on how the Action Alliance will promote improvements in surveillance and research and ensure future Action Alliance initiatives are grounded in science through our Data Surveillance, Analytics, and Research Strategic Priority.

Data Surveillance, Analytics, and Research advances efforts in support of the 2024 National Strategy through the following:

  • Strategic Direction 1: Community-Based Suicide Prevention
    • Goal 3: Reduce access to lethal means among people at risk of suicide.
  • Strategic Direction 3: Surveillance, Quality Improvement, and Research
    • Goal 10: Improve the quality, timeliness, scope, usefulness, and accessibility of data needed for suicide-related surveillance, research, evaluation, and quality improvement.
    • Goal 11: Promote and support research on suicide prevention.
    • Goal 15: Improve and expand effective suicide prevention programs for populations disproportionately impacted by suicide across the life span through improved data, research, and evaluation.
